Trade winds may shift to southerlies by Sunday

The cooling trade winds that have been plentiful in recent days are expected to weaken later today and tonight, gradually shifting to southerlies before becoming light and variable on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

A weather front will reach Kaua'i as a shear line on Monday, then stall near O'ahu on Tuesday, forecasters said.

Clouds and showers will increase near the shearline, forecasters said.

Here's a closer look at the next few days:

Today, partly sunny with scattered showers. Highs 81 to 87. East winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.

Tonight, mostly clear. Lows 69 to 77. Northeast winds around 10 mph.

Sunday, mostly sunny. Isolated showers in the afternoon. Highs 81 to 87. South winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Sunday night, partly cloudy. Isolated showers after midnight. Lows 69 to 77. Light winds. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Monday, mostly sunny with isolated showers. Highs 78 to 83. South winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Monday night, partly cloudy with scattered showers. Lows 70 to 78. Northeast winds around 10 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.
