CFB: Elway's QB son reportedly commits to Arizona St.

Associated Press

DENVER — Jack Elway, Hall of Famer John Elway's quarterback son, has verbally committed to play for Arizona State, the Rocky Mountain News reported today.

The younger Elway has thrown for 1,677 yards and 21 touchdowns this season at Cherry Creek High School in Denver. He visited Arizona State last weekend, watching the unbeaten Sun Devils beat Washington.

John Elway, who was an All-American at Stanford before helping the Denver Broncos to two Super Bowl titles, is serving as Cherry Creek's quarterbacks coach.

Cherry Creek coach Greg Critchett said he hasn't spoken with his quarterback about his college commitment, but had heard from players and coaches that he had chosen Arizona State.

"He'll be great there," Critchett said. "His style is perfect for them. He can run and move around in the pocket. He's one of those kids where, even if you didn't know his last name, you'd say, 'That's a kid I want on my team.'"

Arizona State coach Dennis Erickson was offensive coordinator for Jack Elway Sr., John's father, at San Jose State from 1979 to 1981.
