Night repaving planned along Ala Moana this week

Advertiser Staff

HONOLULU — The state Department of Transportation advises Oahu motorists of multiple lane closures on Ala Moana Boulevard tonight through Friday morning, Oct. 26, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, at the following locations:

i From Ward Avenue to Queen Street in both directions for saw-cutting and trenching work for the installation of street light and traffic signal conduits.

i From Fort Street to Coral Street in the eastbound direction for pavement resurfacing work.

Barring any weather-related delays, crews hope to have all lanes of Ala Moana Boulevard repaved from Fort Street to Ward Avenue by Thanksgiving. Following the DOT's holiday season break from road construction work in late December, resurfacing work will resume in January from Ward Avenue to Piikoi Street.

Contractor Grace Pacific Corp. will install a 2 1/2-inch top layer of "Superpave" asphalt-concrete mix along the 1.6-mile stretch of Ala Moana Boulevard. This compact asphalt material, which also was used to resurface Moanalua Freeway and Nimitz Highway, will create a smoother, quieter ride for drivers.

Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through the work area and to allow for extra travel time.
