Brushfire mop-up under way in Makaha Valley

Advertiser Staff

Mop-up was under way this morning after firefighters successfully contained a pesky brushfire in Makaha.

Three engine companies were on scene to clean up smoky spots and hose down smoldering tree stumps.

The fire had flared Saturday night, requiring firefighters to respond to the blaze that scorched about 300 acres.

The fire began Friday and burned close enough to the Makaha Valley Towers apartments Friday afternoon that fire officials advised residents to leave the buildings to avoid the heavy smoke.
