MALAMA KA'ALA — Spend the day on Ka'ala summit with Army Natural Resource Program on weed control at the bog from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday. Interpretive boardwalk hike to follow. NATURE CENTER WORK DAYS — Hawai'i Nature Center volunteer work days are held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays at 2131 Makiki Heights Drive; call 988-8995. Tasks include power-washing trailers, painting, planting.

POUHALA MARSH RESTORATION — The Hawai'i Nature Center is restoring Pouhala Marsh in Waipahu. Volunteers are needed to pull pickleweed and mangrove, 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday. Bring work gloves, water, hat, sunscreen, towel and change of clothes; covered footwear and long pants required. Contact Pauline Kawamata at 955-0100, ext. 18.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY — Surfrider Foundation and Sierra Club are hosting a beach cleanup at Ala Moana Park from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday. Meet near Magic Island entrance. Gloves, garbage bags, refreshments and post-cleanup barbecue provided. Deadline to register is today; call Arlene Buchholz, 988-9806.
