Fort Weaver Road widening gets under way

Advertiser Staff

The good news is that the much-traveled Fort Weaer Road is being widened.

The bad news is that with growth always seems to come a little pain, which in this case would be a single-lane closure in the south-bound direction from the vincinity of Laulani Street to Old Fort Weaver Road from 8 a.m. to 2 p..m. though Friday.

Today kicks off phase II of the widening project. Fort Weaver Road will grow from four lanes to six when completed, adding a lane in each direction from Aawa Drive to Geiger Road.

The construction is scheduled to be completed in mid-2009 and will cost $59.85 million, 80 percent of which will be paid with by federal funds.
