Hawaii's HECO customers to see 4.96% rate hike

Advertiser Staff

The state Public Utilities Commission today approved a Hawaiian Electric Co. interim rate increase of 4.96 percent.

The impact of the increase will vary by type of customer and electricity usage, HECO said. A typical household using 600 kilowatt-hours a month will see its monthly electric bill rise by to $143 from $136.39, an increase of $6.61.

The increase amounts to a $70 million increase in annual net revenue, HECO said in a news release.

"The amount reflects a previously announced settlement agreement between Hawaiian Electric, the State Division of Consumer Advocacy and the U.S. Department of Defense, all parties in the case," according to the release.
