Associated Press

BASEL, Switzerland — Third-seeded David Ferrer was upset by Agustin Calleri 6-4, 7-6 (3) today in the first round of the Swiss Indoors.

Ferrer was knocked out in the opening round for the second straight week, despite a career-high No. 6 ranking.

Stefan Koubek upset seventh-seeded Juan Ignacio Chela 6-3, 6-4, and Jarkko Nieminen rallied past Robby Ginepri 3-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Defending champion Roger Federer played Michael Berrer later Tuesday. The top-ranked Swiss lost to David Nalbandian in the final of the Madrid Masters on Sunday.
