Ag moratorium proposed for West Maui

Advertiser Staff

Citing infrastructure shortages and the County's pending efforts to update the general plan and community plans, Maui County Councilmember Jo Anne Johnson introduced a bill yesterday to establish a temporary development moratorium on West Maui agricultural lands.

"My bill is simply intended to maintain the status quo on ag lands until West Maui traffic impact fees and the updated West Maui community plan come into existence," Johnson is quoted as saying in a news release from the county. "This is consistent with sound planning principles and the constitutional framework established by the courts."

Johnson's legislation is scheduled to be initially reviewed at the Nov. 2 Council meeting, starting at 9 a.m. in the Council Chamber.

The Council meeting is open to the public.
