Work to widen road closes lane

Advertiser Staff

The good news is that the much-traveled Fort Weaver Road is being widened.

The bad news is that with growth always seems to come a little pain, which in this case would be a single-lane closure in the southbound direction from the vicinity of Laulaunui Street to Old Fort Weaver Road from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Friday.

Yesterday kicked off Phase 2 of the widening project. Fort Weaver Road will grow from four lanes to six when completed, adding a lane in each direction from A'awa Drive to Geiger Road.

Construction is scheduled to be completed in mid-2009 and will cost $59.85 million, 80 percent of which will be paid with federal money.
