Pohai Nani hosts Tahitian author

Celestine Vaite, a rising Tahitian author, will read from her novels at 3 p.m. Saturday at Pohai Nani Auditorium, 45-090 Namoku St.

Vaite is the first native Tahitian to receive the coveted French literary award Prix litteraire des etudiants in 2004 for "Breadfruit" and in 2006 for "Frangipani." Her third novel, "Tiare in Bloom," was published this year.

According to Good Reading, "Frangipani" celebrates women of all generations, portraying their strength, resilience and humor.

A reception, book signing and conversation will follow the reading.
