UH sailing team reaches nationals

The University of Hawai'i coed sailing team won the Pacific Coast Conference Sailing Championship last weekend at Point Richmond, Calif.

The Rainbows — with junior Mark Spector in the middle, sophomore Ryan Wild on bow and newcomer Samuel Kahn as skipper — scored a low-best 15 points in the seven-team field.

Cal Maritime Academy (21) finished second, followed by Stanford (23), USC (24), UC San Diego (30), CSU Channel Islands (41) and Santa Clara (44).

The UH coed team advances to the ICSA Sloop National Championship, Nov. 16-18, at Fort Worth, Texas.

ROOSEVELT WINS TOSS

Roosevelt won a coin toss yesterday to break a tie for third place in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference football final standings.

The Rough Riders (5-2-1 overall) will play at No. 2 seed Waipahu (7-2) in a White Conference semifinal on Nov. 2.

In the other semifinal that same night, No. 1 seed Kaimuki (8-1) will face Pearl City (5-2-2) at Kaiser Stadium.

Roosevelt and Pearl City finished tied for third with 5-2-1 records in the White.
