Today's Championships

Advertiser Staff

STATE AIR RIFLERY AT BLAISDELL

The Hawai'i High School Athletic Association state air riflery championships will be held today at the Neal Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall.

Mid-Pacific senior Jordan Muratsuchi returns to defend his individual title from last season. Muratsuchi and Punahou's Scott Hong both shot a 529 last year and a tiebreaker had to be used to determine the winner.

Punahou, last year's boys champion, has won the last two team titles. Saint Louis won the first five state titles since the championships began in 1999. Waiakea is the only non-Interscholastic League of Honolulu team to win a team title, capturing it in 2004.

Last year's girls champion, Jolana Gollero of Pearl City, has graduated. Sacred Hearts is the defending girls champion and returns its top four shooters — all seniors.

The Lancers have won five state titles and Punahou has won the other three.

Boys will shoot first starting at 8:30 a.m., followed by the girls. The awards ceremony is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.

ILH VOLLEYBALL TITLE ON LINE

Two-time defending state champion Kamehameha will face 'Iolani yet again. This time for the overall ILH title today.

Match time is 6 p.m. at 'Iolani.

'Iolani defeated Kamehameha during the regular season and won the regular-season title. The Warriors beat the Raiders to win the ILH Tournament title, forcing a winner-take-all match.
