NFL: Houston's Schaub practices, still day to day

Associated Press

HOUSTON — Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub practiced today, but is still listed as day to day with a bruised hip for Sunday's game against San Diego.

While Schaub participated in a good portion of practice, backup Sage Rosenfels took most of the snaps in team drills.

"Actually, Matt did a lot more than I thought he would," coach Gary Kubiak said. "I would say it's a big step in the right direction. Matt definitely looked better today."

Schaub was injured when Tennessee's Albert Haynesworth delivered a helmet-to-helmet hit on him just before halftime Sunday. Schaub had left the game earlier after a hard hit on his left leg, but returned after a short stint on the sideline.

If Rosenfels starts against the Chargers, it will be just his third career start and his first since 2005. With Schaub's availability in question, the Texans signed Shane Boyd to their practice squad today.
