New Beginnings ceremony at Kawaiahao Church

Advertiser Staff

Members of Kawaiaha'o Church will pay tribute to some of its older buildings with a Ho'omaka Hou ceremony from 10:15 a.m. to noon today at the church. Likeke Hall and the administrative building will be demolished later this month in preparation for the new Multi-Purpose Center, which is being built to accomodate the growing needs of the church.

The New Beginnings ceremony marks the first of several milestones in the construction of the Multi-Purpose Center.

Tours of the historic church and ground will begin at 10:15 a.m. with a formal Oki ceremony to follow at 11:00 a.m.

Likeke Hall and the administrative building were constructed in 1940 and 1929, respectively.

The Multi-Purpose Center will provide more office space, additional classrooms and meeting rooms, a conference room, a new social hall, and a modern kitchen. The new building will also include a bookstore, a reading library, the church archives, and a mini-museum of church antiquities.
