Outstanding piano students perform at Atherton Nov. 3

Ten of local piano instructor Ellen Masaki's most outstanding students will perform a recital in Hawaii Public Radio's Atherton Performing Arts Studio as a benefit for the radio station on Nov. 3.

The students participating in the recital are Laura Bleakley, 16; Maile Cha, 16; Annie Kwok, 12; Irwin Jiang, 15; Alda Lam, 14; Andrew Ramos, 15; Tyler Ramos, 12; Yulia Sharipova, 15; Rachel Stanton, 14; and T.J. Tario, 13. They will be performing solo works of Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev.

The students will also be part of a Maui taping of National Public Radio's "From the Top," which will feature them performing five at a time simultaneously on five grand pianos in the Maui Arts and Cultural Center's Castle Theater with Masaki conducting.

Tickets for the 4 p.m. performance at the Atherton studio are $20 general admission, $17.50 for Hawaii Public Radio members and $10 for students.
