Institute of Medicine selects UH doctor

The University of Hawaii's Institute of Medicine has named Frederick M. Burkle, Jr., M.D., to its active membership, one of only 65 new members.In 2000, Burkle retired from the John A. Burns School of Medicine as Professor and Chair of the Division of Emergency Medicine in the Department of Surgery and Professor of Pediatrics and Public Health. He still holds a Clinical Professorship in the Department of Surgery and Adjunct Professorship in Tropical Medicine. Election to the IOM is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of medicine.
IOM members devote a significant amount of volunteer time as members of IOM committees, which engage in a broad range of studies on health policy issues.
