Two men killed in Maui traffic crash identified

Advertiser Staff

Maui police identified the two men killed early today in a traffic collision on Honoapi'ilani Highway north of Milepost 28 in Kahana as Keone K.M. Brown, 25, of Lahaina, and Angel Villagranna-Zamudio, 22, of Vista, Calif.

Brown was the driver and Villagranna-Zamudio a passenger in a north-bound 1993 Lexus sedan that missed a right curve on the highway, went off the roadway, hit a guardrail, rotated back onto the highway and into the path of a 1997 Honda Shadow motorcycle headed toward Lahaina at 1:03 a.m., according to police Traffic Section commander Lt. Robert "Bobby" Hill.

Brown and Villagranna-Zamudio were thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, Hill said.

The motorcycle operator, a 17-year-old Lahaina boy, was treated for a broken arm at Maui Memorial Medical Center and released.

The deaths are Maui County's 18th and 19th traffic fatalities of the year, compared with 17 a year ago.
