Honolulu ranks as unattractive to relocating singles

Advertiser Staff

Honolulu ranks near the bottom of the list of metropolitan areas that are most attractive to a relocating single person, according to a report from relocating industry group Worldwide ERC and Primacy Relocation.

Honolulu ranked 92nd out of 100 areas examined, just behind Bakersfield, Calif., and ahead of Miami. The Atlanta metropolitan area was deemed the best place for singles relocating, followed by New Haven, Conn., and Madison, Wis.

The report, authored in conjunction with Bert Sperling's BestPlaces, looked at a variety of factors that are important to singles, including male-female ratios, diversity, cost of living, job growth and something called the Adventure index.

"Weighing a variety of factors — from nightlife to the rental market — gives a better snapshot of a city and how the transferee will adjust to his or her new life following a move," said Michelle Vallejo, Primacy President, The Americas, in a news release.

"Moving to a new city is inherently stressful. This survey is designed to identify the criteria which will make the transition a bit smoother for singles."
