TAG launches August Wilson's "Fences" tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

"Fences," a drama by August Wilson, about a former Negro Baseball League star who becomes an embittered garbage collector, will be staged by The Actors' Group tomorrow through Nov. 25 at the Yellow Brick Studio, at 623 Keawe St.

Derrick Brown will direct the drama, part of Wilson's majestic cycle of plays chronicling the African American experience in the 20th century.

Jim Andrews plays the central figure, Troy Maxon, who builds a picket fence around his yard, in a story about both actual and figurative boundaries in society.

The cast also includes Wendy Pearson, Savada Gilmore, Curtis Duncan, Chris Smith, David Payne and Safari Jones.

The show show bows at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow, then will have recurring performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 4 p.m. Sundays.

Tickets: $15 general, $13 seniors, $12 students and groups of 10 or more. Reservations: 722-6941.
