Fujikawa shoots 1-under 70 in Nationwide Tour event

Advertiser Staff

Moanalua High School junior Tadd Fujikawa, trying to make his first cut as a professional, shot a 1-under 70 today in the $575,000 Miccosukee Championship at Miccosukee Golf & Country Club in Miami.

Playing in cloudy, 78-degree temperatures, the 16-year-old has had a steady round of 15 pars, two birdies and a bogey.

He started on the back nine and had a bogey the par-5 16th, but birdied the par-4 18th to make the turn at 36 on the par-71 course.

He then birdied the par-3 17th hole to finish with a front-nine of 1-under 34.

Fujikawa teed off early in this 72-hole event, the last Nationwide event before the season-ending Tour Championship.

The early leaders are Scott Weatherly and Fabian Gomez, who are at 4-under 67.

Fujikawa turned pro in July and has missed the cut in his first five professional starts —two PGA Tour events, one each on the Canadian and European tours, and Nationwide's Albertson's Boise Open.

At the PGA's Frys.com Open two weeks ago, Fujikawa finished last when he shot 74-80.
