USDA mulls allowing importation of Australian cherries

Advertiser Staff

The U. S. Department of Agriculture is considering allowing the importation of sweet cherries from Australia into the continental United States and Hawai'i.

The agency said it recently completed an analysis that showed various measures should be sufficient to help prevent introducing plant pests or noxious weeds via the importation of sweet cherries from Australia.

The USDA's pest risk analysis and environmental assessment are available for review and comment at www.regulations.gov. The docket number is APHIS-2007-0128. The comment period ends Dec. 11.
