HIFF hit "American Fusion" comes to Dole Nov. 2

Advertiser Staff

"American Fusion," a first full-length film for writer/director Frank Lin, receives its official Honolulu release beginning Friday, Nov. 2.

The film was digitally screened at the 2005 Hawaii International Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award and broke the record for most sold-out screenings. "American Fusion" has been mastered and is returning to Honolulu for a limited engagement at the Dole Cannery Theaters.

"American Fusion" is a love story combining tales from two cultures — Chinese-American and Hispanic-American — and stars acclaimed Hong Kong actress Sylvia Chang ("20:30:40," "The Red Violin"), Hispanic heartthrob Esai Morales ("La Bamba," "NYPD Blue," "Jericho"), Asian American action star Collin Chou ("Matrix Reloaded," "DOA," Jet Li's "Fearless"), Asian American icons James Hong ("Balls of Furry," "Blade Runner") and the late Academy Award Nominee Pat Morita ("Karate Kid," "Happy Days").

Lin's first feature has a slew of awards to its credit. In addition to winning the HIFF Audience Award, it has also won the Best American Independent Feature Film at the Mount Shasta International Film Festival, the Audience Award and the Best Actor Jury Award at the Los Angeles Asian American Independent Film Festival, and the CAPA Unsung Hero Award and a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition.
