Tadd Fujikawa will take another whack at making his first cut as a professional this week in Miami.

The 16-year-old Moanalua High School junior will tee off at 3:20 a.m. (Hawai'i time) today and 8 a.m. tomorrow in the $575,000 Miccosukee Championship at Miccosukee Golf & Country Club.

It is the last Nationwide event before the season-ending Tour Championship.

Fujikawa turned pro in July and has missed the cut in his first five professional starts —two PGA Tour events, one each on the Canadian and European tours, and Nationwide's Albertson's Boise Open.

At the PGA's Frys.com Open two weeks ago, Fujikawa finished last when he shot 74-80.

Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Don Strock — the Dolphins are title sponsor of the Pro-Am — is executive director of the Miccosukee Foundation.

He offered Fujikawa a sponsor's exemption, fully aware of the buzz that has followed him since he became the youngest ever to qualify for the U.S. Open last year, then followed up with a 20th-place finish at this year's Sony Open in Hawai'i.

Bryce Molder won last year's event with a score of 14-under-par 270. Boo Weekly was second and Hawai'i's Parker McLachlin tied for 10th.

TAIWAN SENIOR OPEN

ISHII SHARES SECOND

Hawai'i golf Hall of Fame member David Ishii finished with a share of second at last weekend's Taiwan Mobile Senior Open, at Miramar Golf and Country Club.

Ishii opened with rounds of 71-72, then finished with a 5-over-par 77 in windy conditions. His 220 total was three back of Taiwan's Chun Hsing Chun, who closed with a 71 to finish at 1-over 217.

Ishii missed a 4-foot birdie putt on the final hole that dropped him into a six-way tie for second. Isao Aoki was also among the six.

MAKALEI AMATEUR

EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION

Early Bird registration for the second annual Makalei Amateur Championship, Nov. 10 and 11, has been extended to Nov. 1.

The Early Bird fee, originally set to expire Oct. 20, provides a $50 savings to golfers. Registrations postmarked or received by Nov. 1 will qualify for the special rate of $125. After Nov. 1 it is $175.

The tournament is open to men and women.
