Typical HECO customer to get one-time $17 refund

Advertiser Staff

The typical Hawaiian Electric Co. customer will receive a one-time, $17 refund under a revised order by the state Public Utilities Commission.

The PUC today issued a proposed final order to a 2005 rate hike that would require HECO to return $15 million to its 293,000 O'ahu customers.

The PUC previously granted HECO an interim rate increase of 3.3 percent, or $41 million, in September 2005. But today's proposed final order reduced the rate increase to 2.7 percent, or $34 million.

The refund is unrelated to a ruling on Monday granting HECO an interim rate increase of 4.96 percent.
