Investigator finds Papakolea fire started in living room

The Honolulu Fire Department's fire investigator has determined that the cause of a Thursday morning house fire in Papakolea is undetermined and that the fire began in the living room.

The fire destroyed a 50-year-old, wooden construction one-story house at 2401 Tantalus Drive, causing $400,000 in damage to the structure and $15,000 in damage to the home's contents, according to a fire department news release.

Two other houses were also damaged. One sustained $100,000 in damage to its structure and $20,000 to it contents. The other sustained $25,000 in damage to its structure and $5,000 to its contents.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 6:02 a.m. and brought the fire under control at 6:52 a.m. It was fully extinguished at 8:20 a.m. There were no injuries.
