The Hawai'i State Art Museum celebrates its fifth birthday with a special First Friday and Second Saturday.

  • Nov. 2: Celebrate under the stars at Live from the Lawn on First Friday with the opening of the "Uncommon Objects" art exhibit, which includes Vicky Chock's Haniwa Samurai, right. Kenny Endo and Taiko Center of the Pacific will perform. Museum galleries will be open throughout the night.

  • Nov. 10: Bring family and friends for art demonstrations, birthday cake and ice cream, entertainment by Halau Hula Ka No'eau, music by Phoenix Dance Chamber, storytelling by James McCarthy and dance performances by IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre.

    View the latest gizmos at the annual Sony Expo, "HDNA: High Definition. It's in our DNA." The electronics pioneer will unveil several new products such as OLED TV, right, a super-slim prototype; Bravia LCD TV with internet capabilities and color choices; Blu-ray Disc Player, the next-generation high-definition 1080p resolution player with HD movies available; Walkman video player, Sony's first Walkman video MP3 player; and Smile Shutter, which automatically spots and snaps a picture when a person smiles.

    Moliere's classic comedy "The Imaginary Invalid" centers around a wealthy man crippled by hypochondria; he even tries to marry off his daughter off to a physician to ensure that a doctor will always be around. Then there are the romantic twists, miscommunication and much laughter. In the end, love trumps all. The cast includes Becky Maltby, left, as Toinette and Larry Bialock as Argan (the invalid).

    Hanahau'oli School invites the public to shop, eat and play at its annual children's fair, "O Joy to the World." They like to call it a 'friend raiser,' too, designed to bring families and the neighborhood together. There'll be Arabian pony rides, world-themed games, artisans bazaar, balloon art, food booths, North Pole Country Store, Swiss Miss Ice Cream Shoppe and even Waiola's shave ice and more for folks of all ages.

    CANCELED: NOV. 16, 17-18

    Academy Award and Golden Globe winner Olympia Dukakis, who was scheduled for two events in November, has canceled her appearances because of her husband's illness. She was to speak Nov. 16 and conduct a master acting class Nov. 17-18 at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa.

    CONCERT: NOV. 27

    America (left, Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley) is seeing a career resurgence among people nostalgic for those smooth singalong hits such as "Sister Golden Hair" and "Horse with No Name." The duo stops in Hawai'i as part of its world tour that also hits New York, Las Vegas, Austin, Texas, Canada, the Philippines and Singapore.
