Designer and pattern creator Stephanie Kimura will hold another one of her popular bag-making classes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 1 and 2 at the Bernina Store, 320 Ward Ave. Learn her tips and techniques, and make and take a bag of your own for $90.

If you need inspiration, she will also have a trunk show of her clothing and bags at the store on those dates. For information and registration, call 593-9150.

ISLAND TIES IN STOCK

Barbara Wallace's Island Ties, a clever way to make suitcases easily identifiable on the baggage carousel, were so popular they quickly sold out. They are now back on shelves (in new colors and with a new maile-pikake design) at Longs, Don Quijote, the Navy Exchange and Kmart.

NEW CINNAMON GIRL

Cinnamon Girl has just opened a holiday store in Kahala Mall, in the space formerly occupied by Banana Republic. That makes eight stores in Hawai'i. It's a long way from the old craft fair days for Jonelle and Reid Fujita!

ENCORE BAGS OPENS

Trying to buy green? Check out the two new Encore Bags kiosks (at Ala Moana Center and Waikele Premium Outlets) featuring handbags made from discarded juice pouches.

Island sisters Cherie Fikani, Kelly Boquer-Wintjen and Rica Velasco import the colorful pieces from the Philippines, where members of a women's cooperative sew and weave the juice labels together. Surprisingly durable, the bags are also practical, affordable and, of course, eco-friendly.

In addition to handbags, the collection features totes, coin purses, lunch bags, backpacks, diaper bags, pencil cases and other accessories.

Encore Bags will be at this weekend's Craft and Gift Fair at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. Prices range from $3 to $90.
