Advertiser Staff

Two men were killed yesterday in a car wreck on Maui, while a Big Island woman injured in an Oct. 13 crash died yesterday in an O'ahu hospital.

The Maui crash happened at 1 a.m. on Honoapi'ilani Highway, just north of milepost 28 in Kahana.

Police said a northbound 1993 Lexus sedan missed a right curve on the highway and hit a guardrail. The vehicle rebounded back into traffic and collided with an oncoming 1997 Honda Shadow motorcycle.

The Lexus driver, Keone K.M. Brown, 25, of Lahaina, and his passenger, Angel Villagranna-Zamudio, 22, of Vista, Calif., were thrown from the sedan and found dead at the scene, police said. The injured motorcyclist was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The two deaths are Maui County's 18th and 19th traffic fatalities of the year, compared with 17 a year ago.

On O'ahu, Su-Mei Billman, 55, of Na'alehu died at The Queen's Medical Center of injuries suffered Oct. 13 in a collision between a pickup truck and motorcycle on Hawai'i Belt Road.

Billman was a passenger on a northbound Harley-Davidson motorcycle that was struck by a 1999 Ford Ranger pickup making a left turn near the 106-mile marker at 2:05 p.m.

Edward Billman, 55, who was operating the motorcycle, died about 2 1/2 hours after the accident.

The death of Su-Mei Billman is the Big Island's 33rd traffic fatality of the year and the fifth involving a motorcycle operator or passenger.

As of today, 109 people have been killed in traffic accidents statewide: 50 on O'ahu, 33 on the Big Island, 19 in Maui County and seven on Kaua'i.
