The Aggies drove from their 24 to UH's 17, but UH linebacker Adam Leonard intercepted a tipped pass and returned the ball to the UH 29, halting a good Aggie drive.

In the second quarter, UH sacked New Mexico State quarterback Chase Holbrook twice, pinning the Aggies back to their 6. Myron Newberry then returned a punt 29 yards to the Aggie 12.

Kelly then kicked a 27-yard field goal to make it 16-0.

Brennan completed 15 of 23 for 231 yards in the first half.

New Mexico State took the opening second-half kickoff and drove for a 41-yard field goal by Paul Young to make it 23-6.

But UH drove 61 yards on five plays, capped by Bess' touchdown reception for a 29-6 lead. The extra-point again failed.

The Aggies came right back behind the passing of Chase Holbrook, who hit Wes Neiman for a 19-yard scoring pass on a fourth-and-3 play.

Brennan drove UH right back, going 68 yards that was capped by an 11-yard touchdown reception to Grice-Mullins. Kelly's kick was good for a 36-13 lead.
