Firefighters rescue 2 lost hikers in Manoa

Advertiser Staff

Firefighters tonight safely brought out two lost men who had called for help after hiking off the Manoa Falls trail, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.

The men were brought out uninjured shortly before 7 p.m., Seelig said.

Fire Rescue, a company from the Manoa station, and an HFD helicopter responded to the 5:50 p.m. call.

Seelig said although the men had a cell phone, they were not able to direct firefighters to a location because they had ventured off the trail.

It is recommended hikers not only carry a cell phone but a flashlight or mirror to use as a signal device in case of trouble, Seelig said.
