Advertiser Staff

Five people were injured today on Maui in a collision involving two vehicles in Lahaina.

The 12:28 p.m. wreck happened when a 2006 Nissan Sentra turning left from Olowalu General Store onto Honoapi'ilani Highway was broadsided by a Lahaina-bound 1993 Ford Explorer.

All five people injured were in the Sentra.

The driver of the car, a 39-year-old Wailuku man, and a 7-year-old boy, who was a rear-seat passenger, were taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition. Three other rear-seat passengers — a woman, 27; boy, 10, and girl, 9 — are in fair condition at the hospital, according to Traffic Division Officer Lawrence R. Becraft II.

A Wailuku man, 30, who was a front-seat passenger, was treated and released.

No other injuries were reported.
