Officer OK after being sideswiped; driver arrested

Advertiser Staff

A police sergeant was in good condition this morning after being struck by a car while he was investigating an early-morning accident on H-1 Freeway, west of the Halawa off-ramp, officials said.

Sgt. Mike Clark was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in good condition after the 3:40 a.m. accident.

Police arrested a 42-year-old Waipahu man for the investigation of operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant and for negligent injury, said Honolulu Police Sgt. Lloyd Sanborn.

Clark was investigating a motor vehicle accident when a car sideswiped Clark's police car, which struck another police car and threw Clark into the air, Sanborn said. Clark is a 20-year veteran of the police force.
