Two arrested after Waikiki assault

A 26-year-old man was in serious condition yesterday after being assaulted on Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki.

A witness identified two suspects to police. A 31-year-old and a 26-year-old man were arrested near the scene on suspicion of assault, police said.

Police said the man was walking down the street shortly after midnight when he was punched in the head by another man. The blow knocked him to the sidewalk, where he remained unconscious, police said. A second man kicked the victim while he was on the ground, police said.


SUSPECT SOUGHT IN INFANT'S BEATING

Police were looking yesterday for a 32-year-old man in connection with the beating of a 7-month-old infant.

The infant was brought into the hospital on Wednesday suffering from injuries reportedly sustained in a fall.

Hospital tests and a police investigation later revealed that the infant was beaten.

Police said they knew the identity of the suspect but he remained at large yesterday.


MAN HELD FOR RECKLESS DRIVING

A 20-year-old man was in police custody yesterday following his arrest on suspicion of racing a car on the H-1 Freeway.

Police said the man was arrested late Friday night at the intersection of Aolele and Pai'ea streets near Honolulu International Airport.

Among the charges the man faces are driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving, racing on a highway at more than 30 mph above the speed limit, excessive speeding and resisting an order to stop.

He was being held on $7,000 bail.
