University Avenue water main break snarls traffic

Traffic on University Avenue near Varsity Place remains snarled because of repair work to a broken water main.The 12-inch-diameter pipe was reported leaking at 9:30 p.m. Sunday. All customers have water, the Honolulu Board of Water Supply reported this afternoon.
Both mauka-bound lanes of University Avenue are closed around Varsity Place. One makai-bound lane has been contra-flowed for mauka-bound traffic.
Repair work has been complicated by the fact that the water main is between a box drain and a Hawaiian Electric Co. electrical duct, the water board said.
