Groundbreaking Friday for LDS church in Kapolei

Advertiser Staff

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will have a groundbreaking and blessing for its new Ward Chapel at 7 a.m. Saturday at 2074 Lauwiliwili St. in Kapolei.

Designed for two wards, or congregations, the 3.174-acre site will hold a $4.5 million, 12,846-square-foot multi-use church building, designed to serve 600.

Construction is set to begin Friday and is estimated to take about a year.

Reconstruction of the Waianae Chapel facility, damaged in an arson fire last year, is expected to commence in mid 2008.
