College: Nevada athletes at Reno party where 3 killed

Associated Press

RENO, Nev. — A Nevada basketball player was hurt in a fight at a Halloween party, where three people were shot to death.

Tyrone Hanson, a sophomore forward, was at the party early yesterday and was treated and released from a Reno hospital, said Rhonda Lundin, director of media services for the Nevada athletic department.

Nevada football coach Chris Ault told the Reno Gazette-Journal that some of his players also attended the party, but he did not believe any had been involved in the fight or shooting.

Two 19-year-olds, Samisone Taukitoku and Saili Manu, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a firearm, police said. Bail was set at $500,000 each.

Police Lt. Robert McDonald said a preliminary investigation determined the gunshots were fired after a shoving match over people bumping into each other on the dance floor. Killed were Charles C. Kelly of Truckee, Calif., and Derek Jensen of Reno and Nathan Viljoen of Fallon, Nev.
