Kauai credit union subject of phishing attack

Advertiser Staff

The Kauai Community Federal Credit Union is telling members to delete fake e-mails that purport to be from it and are part of a so-called "phishing" attempt to get people to give out information that can used to gain access to financial accounts.

At least two e-mails are circulating, both of which promise $50 to recipients.

One promises $50 for taking time to answer a five-question survey.

The other e-mail states the credit union has been satisfied with its survey results, but asks people to click on a link so they may receive $50 to participate in an unnamed offer.

The e-mails are the latest in sporadic phishing e-mail attempts targeting customers of local financial institutions. Last week bogus e-mails circulated that were aimed at Bank of Hawaii customers.
