H-Power operator to get state health & safety award

Advertiser Staff

Covanta Energy Corp., which operates Honolulu's H-Power incinerator-generator H-Power, will receive an employee health and safety award at a ceremony tomorrow at Campbell Industrial Park facility.

The Hawai'i Voluntary Protection Program "Star" award, given out by the Hawai'i Occupational Safety and Health Division of the Department of Labor & Industrial Relations, recognizes "the incentives and support that employers provide while working with their employees to develop, implement and continuously improve the effectiveness of their workplace safety and health programs."

The Covanta HPOWER facility generates approximately 46 megawatts of energy from 2,000 tons of waste per day. The electricity generated serves the needs of 40,000 homes on O'ahu and helps the island becoming more energy efficient and sustainable.
