County officials are seeking civic-minded Big Island residents to fill vacancies for North and South Kona on the Environmental Management Commission.

The commission works on issues related to solid waste and wastewater disposal, such as ways to finance expansion of the sewer system, ways to divert solid waste from county landfills and strategies to prevent dumping on public and private lands.

The new commission members would begin their terms Jan. 1.

Applications are available at the mayor's offices at 891 Ululani Street in Hilo, and at Hanama Place at 75-5706 Kuakini Highway in Kona.
