Work continues on makai-bound lanes of Fort Weaver Road from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily this week.

Motorists are advised that single-lane closures will occur during that time for installation of temporary lane striping and the placement of portable concrete barriers between Laulaunui Street and Old Fort Weaver Road.

The state Department of Transportation began the $59.85 million Phase 2 of the project last week. An extra lane will be added to each side of Fort Weaver from 'A'awa Drive to Geiger Road, making it a six-lane highway. Of that amount, 80 percent is being paid with federal dollars.

Expected completion date is mid-2009.

Phase 1, from Farrington Highway to 'A'awa, was completed in August 2006.
