Accomplished writer to read at UH Hilo

The University of Hawai`i at Hilo hosts a public reading by young people's writer Sarona Aiono-Iosefa today from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. in UCB 127. The event is free and open to the public.Aiono-Iosefa, who lives and works in Christchurch, New Zealand, was selected as the 2007 Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writer with the University of Hawai`i at Manoa Center for Pacific Islands Studies as a tribute to her contributions to the literary life of Aotearoa, New Zealand. She has written extensively on Samoa's pre-Christian beliefs, aided in part by the University of Hawai`i's rare Pacific collection. The publications, considered to be among the finest in the world, have given her a rich window into Samoa's past. Much of Aiono-Iosefa's research is being woven into a novel for young adults, O Se Mea e Tatau: Something Right.
Aiono-Iosefa will read from her published and unpublished works on issues that young people struggle with. The readings will include excerpts from her draft of O Se Mea e Tatau: Something Right.
The reading is co-sponsored by the UH Manoa Center for Pacific Islands Studies, the UH Hilo Minority Access & Achievement Program, and Tupulaga o Samoa mo a Taeao Samoan Club.
