Maui's Rotary clubs are celebrating 70 years of service next month.

The Rotary Club of Maui was chartered in November 1937 as the first Rotary Club on the Valley Isle. Today there are eight Rotary clubs with a combined membership of more than 300. Rotary is a global network of business and professional leaders committed to humanitarian service and building good will and peace throughout the world.

To commemorate the anniversary, Jill Engledow was hired to write a book on the history of Rotary on Maui. She is seeking memorabilia from any of the eight clubs' early years for the book and a slide show to be presented at a Nov. 17 celebration.

Engledow can be e-mailed at jill@mauiislandpress.com; or contact club president Don Reeser at donbunr@maui.net.

Engledow will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Maui's weekly meeting at noon Thursday at the Class Act Restaurant at Maui Community College. The event is open to the public; the cost is $20.
