HAWAII GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION

The Hawaii Government Employees Association has promoted Jodi Endo Chai to communications officer. Chai is responsible for marketing, advertising and external communications, as well as internal communications to the union's membership, which includes more than 28,000 state and county employees. Chai has been with HGEA as a communications specialist since 1996. In her new role, Chai will work with HGEA's leadership team and directors, and serve as primary liaison with the media and community. She also oversees all marketing and communications efforts, including HGEA's media campaign, and the newly upgraded Web site for union members and the public.

HAWAIIAN AIRLINES

Hawaiian Airlines recently appointed Gary McKoy to the newly created position of senior manager, Pacific Region. In his new role, McKoy has direct oversight for Hawaiian's flight operations serving Sydney, Australia; Pago Pago, American Samoa; and Papeete, Tahiti. Hawaiian provides nonstop flights between each destination and Honolulu. A 17-year employee of Hawaiian, McKoy most recently served as station manager of its Sydney operations.

HOAKALEI CULTURAL FOUNDATION

Arline Eaton, a Hawaiian studies teacher at Iroquois Point Elementary, has been appointed president of the Hoakalei Cultural Foundation, established in 2006 to promote good stewardship of the land and heritage of the 'Ewa Plain. Mary Serrao, president of the 'Ewa Beach Community Association and co-founder of the Pu'uloa Outrigger Canoe Club, has been named vice president of the foundation, and Alicia Maluafiti, the owner of Lo'ihi Communications and a teacher at Hawai'i Pacific University, has been named treasurer. The foundation provides oversight of work to make archaeological sites within Ocean Pointe and the Hoakalei Resort accessible to the community, creating partnerships with area schools and opportunities to pass on knowledge to future generations.
