Waikiki Resort Hotel workers will vote Nov. 8 on new deal

Advertiser Staff

The Waikiki Resort Hotel has reached a tentative contract agreement with about 100 of its unionized workers, according to UNITE HERE Local 5, the union that represents the employees.

The contract with workers at the 296-room hotel, owned by Hanjin International Corporation, expired in December 2006. Negotiations began earlier this year on issues that included housekeeping workload, medical and retiree benefits, and wage increases.

A contract ratification vote for the Waikiki Resort Hotel workers is set for Nov. 8.

Union officials said the contract is patterned after those already agreed to between Local 5 and Waikiki's major hotels in 2006. Local 5 represents more than 11,000 workers in Hawai'i.

Separately, the Ala Moana Hotel last week reached a contract agreement with its unionized workers.
