The fifth annual Emmanuel Episcopal Church Chocolate Extravaganza, which has fast become a Windward side tradition heralding the opening of the holiday season, is set for 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 10 at the church at 780 Keolu Drive. Chocolate is the focus with a chocolate fountain with fruit and snacks for dipping, chocolate buffet and silent auction.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. The VIP event from 5 to 8 p.m. (a special chocolate tasting in the church gardens, new this year) is sold out. The church's goal is to raise $12,000 for Honolulu Habitat for Humanity and Family Promise of Hawai'i. The church is also looking for donations of auction items, chocolate desserts and time. Call co-chairs Carolyn Remedios, 235-1640, or Jane Tonokawa, 261-5126; or go to www.emmanuelkailua.com.

HOLES IN THE WALL

'PUKA GUIDE' GETS AN UPDATE

"The road to a great eatery is never long," says local foodie (and city councilman) Donovan Dela Cruz. "The All-New Puka Guide: Hole in the Wall Eateries, Okazu-Ya and Omiyage Stops Statewide" by Dela Cruz and Jodi Endo Chai updates and revises their original "Puka Guide" and features 100 hole-in-the-wall dining spots, local delis and popular souvenir stops across Hawai'i.

The authors also drop insider tips for ordering the best grinds as well as strategies for taking home omiyage goodies. Hours, parking, seating and house specialties are included, plus space for notes ... like whose kau kau really rocks. $9.95.

Correction: Tickets are $20 at the door for the Emmanuel Episcopal Church Chocolate Extravaganza on Nov. 10 in Kailua. Also, the occasion's VIP event is sold out, and this year there will not be a recipe contest as in past years.
