NFL: Niners sign eight to practice squad

Associated Press

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Rookie running back Thomas Clayton was among eight players signed to the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad today.

Clayton, a sixth-round pick who played at Kansas State, led the NFL in preseason yards rushing, but was among the 49ers' final cuts Saturday.

Every member of the 49ers' practice squad was released by the team in recent days, including receiver Dominique Zeigler, safety Darnell Bing, fullback Zak Keasey, tight end Zac Herold, linebacker Mark Washington and offensive tackles Harvey Dahl and Damane Duckett.

San Francisco returns to practice tomorrow after a weekend break.
