Prosecutors yesterday charged a Kailua Jack in the Box employee with sexually assaulting a woman early Friday morning inside the restaurant.

Elia A. Hauanio, 23, of Poalima Street in Waimanalo, is accused of two counts each of felony first- and third-degree sex assault. His bail is $50,000 pending an initial appearance Tuesday at District Court.

Hauanio, who has two petty misdemeanor fourth-degree theft convictions and one misdemeanor third-degree criminal property damage conviction, is also being held by police on three outstanding warrants of $11,000, $1,200 and $500.

According to police, Hauanio is an employee of the Jack in the Box restaurant at 112 Oneawa St., where a 19-year-old woman alleges she was attacked at 4:30 a.m. Friday.

The woman told police she was walking past the restaurant and was invited into the dining area by two employees. The restaurant's drive-through section was open at that hour but not the dining area, police said.

The woman told investigators she was intoxicated.

While talking to the two men in the restaurant, one of them began fondling her, she told police.

The woman was allegedly dragged into a secluded area of the restaurant and attacked by one of the men, police said.

Police arrested Hauanio at his residence at 6:45 a.m. Friday for investigation. He was charged yesterday at 12:11 a.m.
