Like certain male rock stars, bull elk use the power of their voices to attract interested females. The elk concerts, at their peak in the fall, send strange, high-pitched cries resonating through Yellowstone National Park, punctuated with the occasional percussion riff of massive antlers clashing. For the elk, intent on rounding up and protecting their harems from interlopers, danger lurks not just in the form of bigger bulls with better pipes, but also from the bears and wolves hunting in preparation for winter.

Wildlife Expeditions' two-, three- and four-day "Elk Bugling, Wolves and Bears in Fall" safaris travel through Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone's Lamar Valley — sometimes called America's Serengeti — to prime elk, bear and wolf viewing sites. The trip includes stops at Old Faithful, twilight and early morning predator/prey interactions, and a tour of a grizzly habitat, plus a fall colors scenic drive along Yellowstone Lake.

Dates: Sept. 13-15, 17-18, 20-22 and 27-29, and Oct. 11-14. Rates start at $650 per adult and $495 per child for the two-day tour and includes biologist guide, lodging, all meals and transportation and park entrance fee. 888-945-3567, www.wildlifeexpeditions.org.

SAFETY

HOW TO REPLACE STOLEN DOCUMENTS

If you're a victim of pocket-picking during a trip, replacing your lost passport, airline and train tickets, traveler's check receipts, credit cards, etc., will be a lot easier if you've scanned and e-mailed copies of the items to yourself before you leave.

Use an e-mail account that can be accessed wherever you are in the world; if your work e-mail is finicky and your personal accounts are chock full, set up a separate free e-mail account via Gmail, Yahoo! or Hotmail, just for travel. Forward any electronic tickets or itineraries you may have in other accounts to this new one, so that all of your travel documents are in one place. Bon voyage!
