NFL: Browns will start Frye not Quinn at QB Sunday

Cleveland head coach Romeo Crennel announced today that Charlie Frye will be the starting quarterback when the Browns play the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, according to clevelandbrowns.com.
Frye, who has 18 starts in his first two NFL seasons, started three of the four preseason games. He'll be the first Browns' quarterback to start two consecutive opening days since Kelly Holcomb in 2002 and 2003.
"(Frye) has experience. He's led this team before," Crennel said in the article. "He's played against Pittsburgh before. I think he gives us the best chance to win."
Crennel announced in the spring the quarterback's job would be open for competition. Frye entered as the leader "with a leg up," Crennel said in the spring then held off the challenges of Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn.
"I said all along that competition brings out the best in everybody," Crennel said. "It keeps everybody on their toes and on top of their game. When you look at the big picture this was a good competition."
Quinn was Cleveland's second first round pick in the 2007 NFL draft. The Browns selected offensive tackle Joe Thomas and then traded for the No. 22 pick to select Quinn, a hometown player who played at Notre Dame.
